Hi! Welcome to my site. My name is Paul deMarrais (pronounced "DEM-ah-RAY") and I make oil sticks. I've spent over fifteen years working on them. Oil sticks are simply oil paint formed into a convenient stick rather than the traditional brush and tube paint. They are made of wax, a drying oil, and artist pigment. My oil sticks are all made individually by me, and I choose the color mixtures myself. Artists around the world are using my oil sticks to create paintings in a wide variety of styles. Most of all, my oil sticks are fun to use. I am a painter myself and enjoy working with artists. I offer convenient sets, an exquisite range of colors, as well as original paintings. I am a one man operation and each stick is handmade, labeled and packaged by me. Sticks are individually shipped in a handy and convenient tube. My goals also include making my sticks beautiful in themselves! Many years of tinkering and trial and error has led me to create a stick that is both firm and soft, can allow for both painting and drawing effects, blends easily and works well with palette knives. Many of my colors are mixtures unique to my brand. Pigments are wonderful and good fortune has allowed me to collect a good amount of beautiful, lightfast and permanent pigments over the years. Many of my oil sticks are transparent due to their transparent ingredients of waxes and oil. Some pigments are more opaque than others as well. I think you will find my formulation to be special.
